Is Witch Hazel Safe for Dogs Skin?

This natural Skin Healing Rinse works best with combined with one of our all-natural, chemical-free shampoos.

Regular pet shampoos have a tendency to make skin irritation worse, so use caution if using any product that you can purchase over the counter.

Instructions for using skin healing rinse:

In a mason jar or other closed container, mix 1/4th cup (for smaller dogs and cat) or 1/2 cup (for larger dogs) with 2 – 4 cups (2 for smaller pets, 4 for larger pets) boiling water. Cover with lid and let mixture steep for at least 30 minutes. Overnight is preferable. After the mixture has cooled to room temperature, press and strain out any free-floating herbs. Bathe pet with his or her normal shampoo, then squeeze out all excess water. Pour cooled down rinse over your pet, making sure to avoid the face (pay special attention to not get any rinse in his or her eyes or ears). Leave the rinse on your pet and towel dry, no need to rinse off! You can also use this natural Skin Healing Rinse without the need to bathe your pet first.

You can also add 1 – 3 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar (we recommend Bragg’s) to the jar after straining out the herbs. It has a strong odor at first, but it will fade as your pet’s coat dries. Apple cider vinegar is great for helping with dandruff, itchy skin and adds shine while removing odor naturally.

Precautions :

Be aware this product may tint white coats. Test on a small area of your pet’s fur if this is a concern for you. Under most circumstances, the slight tint will rinse out with your pet’s next normal shampoo bath.

Avoid contact with the eyes. If contact occurs, flush immediately with water and contact your veterinarian for further advice.

This is very soothing to my little old fellows itchy allergy flare ups. After it steeps all night I strain it then microwave to take the chill off. I slowly pour on his irritated spots. It smells good and herby and doesn't need to be rinsed. His inflamed skin is calmed after just a few treatments.
