Some of the super green foods that you may take yourself, can also be used as powerful green supplements for dogs.
Although I’ve written before about the impact of Chlorella for older dogs, I feel the need to touch on this topic once again, and include yet another POWERFUL supplement that can make a huge difference for geriatric dogs.
But, don’t think that you have to wait until your dog is old to start him on these amazing whole foods – YOU DON’T! In fact, start him as early as you can; when they’re still young.
Whole Food Supplements aka Super Green Foods for Dogs
Here’s a list of some of my favorite powerhouse green foods. They are some of the most beneficial greens on the planet:
- Barley Grass – If you notice your dog scratching more after feeding barley grass, it could be an allergy to the grass. Switch to one of the other green foods listed above.
The reason algae can transform our older pets from tired and sluggish, to vibrant and flexible, is the powerful DNA of antioxidants and phytonutrients that make up these ancient foods.
These super green foods are truly loaded with other extremely healthy nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, proteins and enzymes.
If you’ve ever wondered why dogs eat grass; they do it for two reasons. One, because they’re searching for chlorophyll and two, to purge their system. Chlorophyll rejuvenates the body at the very basic levels (cellular and molecular) by detoxifying and ridding the body of contamination and infection, repairing injuries and lacerations and promoting healthy immune, circulatory and digestive systems.
Chlorella and Spirulina
If you’re looking for supplements either to revitalize your older dog or to just keep your dog’s health in check; these two supplements should top the list.
Both are fresh water algae that are high in healing properties also known as antioxidants. Again, both include large amounts of vitamins, minerals and other very beneficial nutrients. Here’s a comment from Chris regarding how well Chlorella and Spirulina worked for his old dog.
Spirulina is an excellent nutritional supplement for dogs due to it’s high level of protein, beta carotene, gamma linolenic acid, vitamin B complex and trace minerals. Plus, test tube and animal studies indicate that Spirulina may also be helpful for dogs with allergies due to it’s ability to stop the release of histamines.
It is the super food of green foods. Spirulina includes mega doses of antioxidants and vegetable nutrition; beating out any other whole food.
Chlorella includes mega doses of Chlorophyll, Vitamin B, Iron, Beta Carotene and protein. It is excellent for detoxifying and removing heavy metals and other toxins throughout the bloodstream.
My dogs take both Chlorella and Spirulina. Since Spirulina is often grown in polluted waters, it’s important to make sure that the product you purchase is PURE. The last thing you want is for the products that you’re buying to remove toxins and regenerate health; include heavy metals from polluted waters themselves!
